18-50 2.8 Macro. All hand held click and run exposures.. :)

You need Sigma Photo Pro 5 in order to load the above pack. get it here.

Again, Please try sharpness at it’s lowest possible setting – this time lower the exposure slider to somewhere around -0.9, add a little highlight, a little saturation (+0.2) and have X3 fill light at +0.2 as well..

Good luck! Please post your best results as a bit smaller in the comment section. True with all my RAW Packs.

Coming soon.. Two mighty raw packs..

SD1 "exposures" Raw pack 2
Mostly long exposures at night, indoors in mixed light and one really sharp shot from early morning in sunlight.

SD1 "life" Raw pack 3
Some shots from yesterday and the day before – Some story telling images that might be quite interesting to look closer at.

I’m currently at a very bad internet connection and later tonight I will be in Dali (I’m in Kunming right now) and in Dali I hope to have a faster connection so that the above RAW Packs can be uploaded. They’re about 500MB together.

They’re worth the wait! :)

Lightning and watched.. SD1 RAW file..

watching me
SDIM1515 – X3F Zipfile Or just have a look at the large JPEG (Med 3264 x 2176). ISO200. 18-50.
Just an everyday photo from where I am right now, Kunming. It’s truly nice to be here again, this was my home for four years and it really feels good to be back again even it’s for a short while. Now I just need to dust off that Chinese of mine.. :)

Oh, and we had this HUGE thunderstorm yesterday night and I tried to get some lightning shots – but.. I didn’t get many good ones. I got one which was handheld for 10s. ;) (leaning to my window). I didn’t bring much extras such as tripods etc with me – I think I’ll get one of those Gorillapods though.

The one that I got locked crazy over exposed at ISO100 and I thought that it was truly a trash shot (knowing the limitations of low ISO highlight) but after stopping it down to ISO25 and the lightning is as clear as day! Though with some strange artifacts.

lightening
Before exposure compensation in SPP (embedded JPEG)

iso25
After, at about -2 exposure compensation and ISO should be around 25 at this moment. But it’s also a bit tricky as the lightning itself gives the sensor a tough time. I’d like to see a proper exposed lightning done before judging too much from above shot. :)

Oh, and I don’t have any photoshop on my macbook so every post editing is done in iPhoto.

SD1 highlights..

overscreen
overscreen2
As noted before, the in-camera jpeg created by the SD1 often has blown highlights when it’s not even close – see above example. Above shot was taken using ISO200 – ISO100 would likely had been blown for real.

Here hoping for Sigma to add some to that jpeg so I can trust what I see on the LCD a bit better. And no, the above shot isn’t finished like that. :) It needs a bit of contrast etc.. But still, works as an example.

SD1 family RAW pack 1

SD1 RAW pack 1
SD1 Raw pack 1, 250MB in size. Click here to download.
ISO200 and 18-50 2.8 Macro used.

These shots are not all “perfect” – one is very over exposed and you need to play around in spp in order to restore (which is possible). I took those group shots using bracketing and thats the reason for over exposure. You need Sigma Photo Pro 5 in order to load the above pack. get it here.

Now I’m off to the airport! Enjoy my family. :) If you can find me in those group shots, then that’s a bonus! (timer used)

Midsommar, SD1..

SDIM1068.jpg

Above shots were taken a couple of days ago using the SD1 at ISO200 using the 18-50 2.8 Macro lens which I really like. I forgot to tune down sharpening in SPP5 so at least the second shot looks way over sharpened. Not sure why Sigma added so much sharpening by default. It should be at least around -1.0.

Using ISO200 is almost a must if you want to preserve skies etc. ISO100 is similar to ISO50 in older SD’s. I’m not keen on going above ISO800 yet.. it’s not a highiso camera but lower ISO’s works great! (below 800).

Before I go to China I will give you a small RAW pack with 5 images from yesterday. But that’s for my next post.

SD1 teaser post..

SD1 shots

Folks! I’m truly sorry that my SD1 test and RAW pack hasn’t been posted yet but there are two pretty good reasons for that. The first being that my SD1 arrived to me very very late, the second that I’m now an Apple employee and my new job (which I will not go into details about) takes lots of my time. And there is another, extra reason and that’s that tomorrow I’m off to China for a month in Dali (Yunnan province) and I DO bring the SD1. So if you’re Chinese and want to meet, please send me an email.

The wedding last saturday hasn’t been developed yet, my computer is way to slow and It’s really really frustrating waiting for each shot to develop. (especially when you don’t really have the time to wait). I’m going to upgrade my computer when back in Sweden. I do bring my MacBook pro 13″ to China and I’m hoping for some time to bring more shots to my site – especially RAW. I know I have a few from that wedding that I will give you as RAW.

I’ll show you some shots now, all taken using the pre SD1 that I had, I’m not allowed to show any full sized shots but I added some crops as well.. All developed using SPP5 and some Lightroom post..

Enjoy

Now, these images was originally used for a keynote presentation I had about the SD1 and those crops has been up-sized by Lightroom to fit projector size – so please bare that they’re not perfectly sharp.. But still I think You get a feeling for what the SD1 can do.

I’ll be back!

Back!

I’ve been on a trip to London for a week and now I’m digging deep into the flow of comments made and the SD1 that was about to enter my hands last week was – not sent – but is now. So in this coming weekend I have my first wedding using the SD1 which will truly be interesting. Anyways, some of you have had your comments blocked by my system but I released them now so they’re out there again. Sorry about that.

Product photography in rain..

What do you do when you have set day to shoot, and that day turns out to be very dark and rainy? You could reschedule or.. use your SD14 and the Sigma 120-300 OS for every single shot. Why SD14 when I have SD15? Well, it wouldn’t be as much fun now, would it? No. :) And it was tricky to get colors the way i like them – and these are more or less straight out from SPP5 beta.

The 120-300 OS is such nice lens to work with – I had a monopod and nothing more. I wasn’t afraid of the rain as I know the SD14 can take quite some – and the 120-300 OS is weather sealed so the combo should work fine and as you see in these shots – even if it was raining it wasn’t like cats and dogs.

I tried to keep a nice distance between me and my objects – Above shot is taken using the full 300mm – they’re all electric bikes so I thought it was a bit fun to shoot with the old gas thingi in the background. Sort of fit the retro look of those bikes as well.

There was some foldable bike that I had to shoot – I used my little brother as my model, he’s very proud of his work. :) I might also add that the bluish / magenta tint that’s slightly over each shot is more or less a side effect of bad light and sd14. SD14 has a strong tendency towards green and well, I could have fought back using flash and more light which normally solves the issue but this time I didn’t wanna risk them due to the weather. So bare the slight tint – and try to look beyond.

So, these are all taken using the old SD14, using it’s 4.6MP capability. Please have a look at those full sized versions to fully appreciate the quality.
