All noise reduction is completely turned off (possible using Raw Developer) which gives extra detail and realistic, film like qualities. – I also saved info in the darker portion of the image.

No additional sharpening, level, curves etc. I did clone out part of a wall though and added vignetting. :) – This sample should be perfect for anyone having a printer and that would like to know what a SD14 4.6mp image will look like a bit bigger. There is stair stepping in this image and with qimage or other software it would probably look a bit better.

I have a friend that has a daughter that is now 18 and will graduate today saturday. The father wanted to make a great little book about her life in china (they’re not from here but lived here for about 10 years). I had much to do so I couldn’t help him. (pearl book and other book project) so time went by and he almost gave up the chance of being able to pul this of. I taught him how to use Apertures book tool, which gave him a small light but the PDF export functionality is sooo poor that even if you made your book the book couldn’t be printed as he/we wanted (Hard cover, glue binded). So yesterday morning I had finished all my ongoing projects and I started to make his book. From 13:20 in the afternoon to printable PDF at printhouse at 02:00 at night, a 24h service.Today we have it in our hands, printed and binded with hard cover and everything. A 70 pages 220x180mm big book. That’s a personal record. As soon as I get permission I will publish some of the pages. As it looks fantastic! ;)Over and out from a rainy and cold Kunming. brrrPS. For you techno geeks out there. Book was made using InDesign CS2, exported as “high quality print PDF” with cutmarks turned on and a 3mm bleed. It was printed on semi-glossed 120g paper double sided on a Xerox-monster color laser printer. Huge thing. Cover was printed on matt paper by a HP 5500 plotter and later laminated and put onto a hardcover thingi. They use big cutters and they do the thing bookmakers do, but in slowmotion. And results is not bad at all. It looks and feels like the real thing. I’d prefere a ink-print inside but laser is ok.

The screens are huge, as you can see on the above image. Max size is 1,5x3m and size doesn’t stop there. By stitching you can continue. None has really been great so I decided to make my own. This test-print is made for testing grey scale, CMYK as well as RGB possibilities on your printer.

Thanks to Günter Hördt, Thomas Mottle and Yi Ding I not only have a great test target for printers I also have great photos to look at. All photos are taken with Sigma cameras btw. This target is also a great way of testing different sharpening methods in order to get that great look out of your prints.

Photos taken with Sigma SD10, lens was my good old Sigma 105mm EX. Shutter varied from 1/8 and 1/20th of a second, ISO 100. First batch shot with manual white balance, with the last ones I changed to “overcast” and therefore you see a color change that I didn’t get right. Lazy me.

Colorful outdoor canvas.

Water and direct sunshine proof

On a distance it looks great! Coming closer and you start to see big grain. I took a close up image incase you wanted to know what’s truly there! This type of print is often seen in downtown Kunming. Huge commercial prints for mobiles and clothing stores. It’s saturated and vivid. The best usage for a photographer would be to print his favorite picture and put on the drive way up to the exhibition hall! :D Have a big lettered text with his/her name. Wouldn’t that look great? Inexpensive fun! BTW, Black and white doesn’t look to good with this technique.

The smaller picture shows a round hole, these are made for easier usage. You can order with or without. They cost $1/each but four is included in the price. I’m such a nice guy!

This print costs $63 plus shipping. Size 59″ x 82″

It’s a beauty to hold a big print like this.

1.5m x 2.1m It’s printed with a NovaJet, it says 1400DPI in the computer but I’m sceptic, you can clearly see the grain if you look close enough. My 100-series prints are not calibrated, only by eye. But if you compare with the original photo, found here! you can clearly see that it looks very true and vivid. Maybe too vivid. :) It’s laminated be default. This process isn’t suitable for black and white. They become too warm.

Due to extreme fine grain and calibrated process Option 301, 201 or 210 is more suited for sell and exhibition.

This print costs $47 plus shipping. Size 59″ x 82″

Matt laminated Lambda print in sunshine.

Image copyright: Germ Wind.

Lamination protects but also takes away some of the original pop from the image. Lamination works better for B&W images. This photo of the photo is taken with my Sigma SD9. No edit in colors, therefore the blue is a little off from original.

Our Durst Lambda 131 prints up to 50″ wide by any length. This machine use pure color red, green and blue laser beams to expose light sensitive photographic paper for really nice prints.

At the moment we use Kodak gloss photo paper, matte is gained by adding a matte lamination. Maybe later we can use a pre matte paper.
