Bengt Svensson teaching the art of Strobe..

Recently I joined a local photo club that is celebrating 50 years this year and the club invited a photographer to speak about strobes. Bengt Svensson was working as a photographer at Volvo for the last 20 years and before that at Hasselblad – During the lesson he shows us some really amazing photos taken with his Hasselblad (he’s not that much into digital) and his knowledge about film and lenses amazed me. It was a pure pleasure to listen to him. I did make some “live filming” which can be found here, but it’s all in Swedish so don’t bother if you don’t understand.

At the end of the lesson he was showing some of his equipment and how to use it, and of couse I had to take a few shots myself with my DP1x. Bengt also promised to help me evaluate the SD1 which will be an enormous help.

My long exposure mixed with a flash (Bengt is triggering the flash with the light meter). The person modeling is Joakim Werder

Another long exposure without a flash..

Here I took one using the flash – this setup was never intended to be used for a good head shot but only to show how to make a soft light – using a very different lens than my very wide one. :)

About Carl Rytterfalk

Welcome to my blog! I'm Carl Rytterfalk, a swedish photographer who loves everything that is interesting in the world of photography. In 2002 I fell in love with the three layered Foveon sensor and has since then been an addicted user of Sigma cameras. Though I use Canon and Nikon as well. :)

Sounds like a very good person for you to have met, Carl.

You are always ‘out doing’, curious in the world, and by experience I think it is great ;)

Dear Carl, it seems that Bengt your friend, has put on quite a show,
For lucky members of your club, both amateur and pro.
It took me back to my club years, presenting similar fare,
To show how soft the light can get when you take a little care.

For that’s a major task always, to shape the light to suit,
Creating moods to tell the tale, no matter what you shoot.
Lucky you to benefit from such a presentation,
With names like Volvo, Hasselblad, he’s got some reputation.

So three cheers to your Mr Svensson, for giving of his time,
Inspiring members to new heights with expert skills sublime.
And you too, Carl, for reminding me of memories in my life,
With this great post and please, pass on regards to your lovely wife. ;)

  3. sigh… I wished I spoke Swedish
