Recycle cameras, an idea..

Update: Wouldn’t it be a lot easier to just take an old DSLR like a SD10 or SD14 and do the same? Slaughter the body and try to put the sensor on the “perfect” distance using the original lens and everything.. Move the shutter button to be just behind the little trigger at the bottom right corner on every camera like below.. :D I wonder if you could actually make this work, if not perfect but still, work!

old: I’ve been contemplating the possibility to rebuild one of my seagull cameras and put a dp inside. I would have to find a matching focal length so that the view will match as close as possible. My thinking is to somehow connect everything so that focus adjusts using the focus wheel on the left side of the seagull camera like you would use it in reality. (same with aperture and shutter-speed) Perhaps I would add a bigger LCD on the back, but only to view the final shot. Also, why not add some battery power in the empty space like in my simple sketch? :) any ideas? I’m pretty sure this is impossible to do without the help of sigma engineers though. Mm

Please don’t disturb the engineers – that could delay the SD1 :)

    Hi Carl ;)

It’s been a long time since I haven’t posted here although I come here quite every day ,)

I was today amazed you had the same idea I had back then ( hehe

I haven’t tried yet but the idea still comes to me from time to time…

Kindest regards to you and your wife Carl, from France

(…wandering with my dp2 and a nice Flexaret too xD)

Pedro, ahh.. I’m not alone! :D Well, perhaps I should slaughter one of my DSLR’s instead! :D Perhaps that’s easier. Should be.

Matthias, you’re of course right. :)

Someone in China tried to make such “digital back” before:

Though I’d hate to lose an old Yashica MAT-124, I’d be happy to put my DP1 into it. The only real modification from your sketch would be putting the LCD into (under) the ground glass viewfinder.
