I want the most beautiful foveon shots!

Hi all,

Soon I’ll be talking at the “photoshop day”, and I will talk about my love for Foveon / Sigma and I need images. :) I know that lots of you know some images that are absolutely stunning, and some of which looks almost 3D. I’d like to show some of those to the audience – some of mine, and some of others. Could you show me, point me to, some really really good shots?!

Thanks!

  15. Jacques, beautiful shot! I’m preparing a FTP that everyone can reach – if you don’t mind, please put your RAW there. :) (this is a message to everyone above. But I don’t need 20 RAW from each, perhaps four tops. And if you can, rename each file to your name so I don’t mess up.

  16. FTP:

    address: http://ftp.rytterfalk.com
    user name: photoshopday
    password: rytterfalk

I will take this away in a couple of days so it will most likely not be abused in such short time. :) Please put RAW (.X3F) in here – if you want a private folder, please tell me.

Please don’t steal each others works!

  17. Also, I’m logged in at all times now on Skype, just send your shot to me and I’ll auto receive. I might have to add you first though. :)

If someone wanna try to send a X3F to me by email that would be nice as I have no idea if my google mail can take bigger files than 10MB. My carl@rytterfalk.com is gmail.

  18. Carl,

Here are three Sigma SD-14 images that I really like. They illustrate different strengths of the SD-14 sensor. Good luck with the talk. Let me know how the talk and presentation goes. I enjoy seeing your photos.

First of all – thanks for your website!; it’s been my main reason for choosing Sigma DSLR when I eventually went digital.

This is the result of an experiment in trying to simulate a day time long exposure using the Sigma DP2. The camera is limited to a max of 15 sec shutter speed. In order to achieve the exposure time necessary I shot 10 images at 5 sec each then stacked them in Photoshop.

    Hello Carl,

i´m following your thread with great interest.
It´s been your kind of Foveon pictures which helped in my decision to buy my 1. SD14.
I really like you style of photography and your enthusiam , your style of showing natural colors, the way you handle your gear, just great!
I appreciate your enthusiam and your engagement for SIGMA-Foveon cameras.

Looking at those beautiful pictures presented to you by other X3f-users, i feel to mention some thoughts here.

You want to show those pro´s, the special quality of Foveon-pictures at an adobe-photoshop-day event, keep in mind, most of them do have lots of experience in using this mighty tool, to sqeeze out the best, of even an not so optimal shot!

To get those experts attentive to your aim, you shouldn´t use post processed pictures of X3f-files regardless of type software used, even if the post processed output is amazing.

    Because why?
These pro´s do have much experience in PP!
The only way to get them, is to show them unprocessed pictures of X3f-files out of SPPxx,
or another really good 3´rd party RAW-Converter, which doesn´t destroy the unique quality of an optimal taken X3f-file (3D-effect).

That´s the „main“ starting point where you can get their attention, if ever, because they know how to evaluate the unaltered, first impression of a picture, and know what to make out of this material.

Showing them great p.p. pictures, isn´t really helpful for your intention, some of those pro´s even will realize that their own skills will fall short, to some state of the art amateur with great talent! In this case they may shut off.

Keep in mind, show them the opportunity they should be aware of, not their shortcomings.
It´s allways a financial decision, to choose a 2nd system, in this case different in many ways.

    My background:
    Coming from High-End Audio Electronics,
I managed to be on the front page of 2 High-End Magazines in Germany and Switzerland. With great reviews.

Demonstrating my amplifiers at High-End-shows and in public to so called pro´s (traders) and private enthusiasts, i had to realize the following:

1.Pro´s are much more biased, than i ever had expected!
2.They shy away, from leaving their well known trail!
3.There are only very few open to new experience!
4.They are looking, hoping for shortcomings of your product, so they don´t have to change their point of view, that´s bitter, but´s the truth.
5.The only chance you have, is to point out the difference, with a clear advance of your product (in this case a unique unaltered picture quality)!
6.You have to show them the difference at basic level, you aren´t allowed to give them room for argueing, in your case pictures with p.p. Otherwise you have lost.

Please don´t be upset for those 5cent of my opinion.
I´m only an amateur in photography, knowing that i have still to learn a lot, regarding photography!

    Carl,
I wish you great success on your tour.

    Best regards

    Bernd

    Hey Carl :-))

When about a month ago, i first opened these pics in SPP 3.5 i gasped.

I had taken pics of this park near me (since march 2009 when i started photographing) with dslrs Fuji S2 pro, Olympus E330, Sony R1.

The realism with SD9 … the other dslrs just looked like photos .. SD9 i felt i was standing there looking at the scene.

    All these are SD9 + 18-50 f3.5-5.6, handheld, only SPP 3.5.
    No other pp.
Cropped the last one (top & bottom) as i got composition wrong.
No unsharp on any of them afaik.

    Hello Carl,
Looking at those beautiful pictures presented to you by other X3f-users, i feel to mention some thoughts here.

5.The only chance you have, is to point out the difference, with a clear advance of your product (in this case a unique unaltered picture quality)!
6.You have to show them the difference at basic level, you aren´t allowed to give them room for argueing, in your case pictures with p.p. Otherwise you have lost.

    +1

My pro photo friend who shoots Glastonbury, V-festival, Isle of Wight festival, tv shows, concerts for magazines since the early 90’s … she has taken pics of Paul Weller, Oasis, Blur, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, you name it she has probably done it …

She has been a canon pro user : digital and film for about twenty years, she will not change from canon.

But after seeing my basic just SPP3.5 raw SD9 pics with cheap lens she couldnt believe it, she said they looked medium format. So she bought an SD9 !

    ….

    If i may add …

I think any beautiful scene will look beautiful with any camera, even a £10 digital camera will make beautiful photo of a beautiful scene … dont need expensive camera, nor full frame, nor foveon.

I think a good expensive lens like a 50mm f1.4, 10-20mm pro level will also make any scene look beautiful.

Thus, to see the magic of foveon is to remove variables as beautiful scene, expensive lens, and just take pictures of a very ordinary scene with a cheap lens.

Ideally the Polaroid x530 point n shoot using a small SD9 sensor, taking pictures of a very ordinary scene would have been the one to show the magic of foveon.

    :-))
