I took photos of candidates of confirmation the last week and I’m dealing with those shots right now. I saw this more or less black shot a moment ago – always keen on seeing if something cool could be saved I opened it up using SPP and found these priceless expressions. :D +2 exposure, +0.7 lightness and finally a big push of X3 Fill light +0,7. I used SPP 3.3 as monochrome looks better that way.

Nice shot. And no Noise. Whenever I do this the picture becomes noisy. Mostly I like it. But sometimes I wish it would stay clear. Is there something to keep in mind?
Hi Jens,
Not sure, I didn’t use any noise reduction. Perhaps if you start off with a high ISO shot it might get grainy but in that case sharpen less and add contrast and darken shadows.
here’s a full sized version of the above shot.

That’s an amazing result. What original ISO did you use?
I might start to push my underexposed raw images, instead of using a native high ISO…
Hi Carl, thank you for reply and the full sized version. The full sized version shows a familar amount of grain (ISO200?). I was flashed by the clearliness of the down sized version. In which – of course – all the grain is gone. I will try your grain reduction hints. Bye.
Taking photos this weekend made me remember this post and how much I love my camera… The pose was candid and not planned… we were testing the softbox because it wasn’t going off. I snapped this and was depressed that it wasn’t clear… But RAW saved it from obscurity.
Hi Chris! It’s always nice to be able to save moments thought lost! If you push a little too much you will see some banding, looks a little like a copying machine thing but still cool to be able! Thanks for sharing!
