Colors of DP2

I’m back, and after dealing with sleep and such my brother got sick and needs attention. Spending lots of time at hospital. Well, I’ve also installed Snow Leopard and enjoying the new speed and snappier behavior. Although SPP felt slower, here hoping for a speedy upgrade from Sigma built on macier code  :P

So, without further talk I give to you two shots taken with the DP2 and developed using Raw Developer. Well, first saved as DNG using LR2. I think these colors are so cool, don’t you? Perhaps it’s my iMac screen that makes everything red so bling bling but hopefully it looks good for you too! Oh, and in case you wonder what those strange stony things are, it’s stamps. :) The stamp on my top banner is made using a stamp like that.

Back home!!

What a trip! Fantastic meetings with old friends – even met the once I thought I lost (contact info etc, three years is sometimes a very long time, especially in a fast moving country as China) and, and ahh.. so much I’d like to mention but it’s late and it’s time for bed. Haven’t slept since Beijing now (where we were hosted by a Nikon / Dp1 shooter known as Ahxing. Had a fantastic time together). Hopefully I’ll have some time over tomorrow for developing some shots. Finally my own screen! :D

Oh, I also added a donate button from paypal! If you feel my site helped you and that you could donate some, please do it! You will make me very happy! :)

Alone in the rain, moving pictures.

It was raining and great shutter speeds turned into seconds. Well, what to do?  These are shots taken with the DP1. I have lots of this type of pictures as I love them. It’s a cool way of isolating a subject. Not always successful but always worth a try. If you have taken shots like this please add in commenting field, I’d love to see yours!

Pregnant chinese women, a short studio visit..

An old friend of mine is about to have a baby and wanted me to take a shot or two of them together. :) Lucky me I meet another friend that has a smaller studio – more made for passport type of photos but after rearanging some I got a ligth that worked ok (her husband is holding the flash and Linn is standing on a chair trying to take away stray light). Hope this isn’t seen as a sexy picture for my viewers as it has nothing to do with that. And no, this time I used a Nikon D90 – mostly because it had a lens better fit for this. Didn’t want the wider feeling of DP1 and 2.

Kunming next! Brain UPDATE!

When we arrived Kunming we headed directly to a hot pot restaurant where some friends already had eaten (buss was a little late) and so hungry as I was I took my chopsticks and started to move around in the pot to see what goodies I could find. The first thing I found was pigs brain! How about that! Now I tried that and grasshopper. I wonder what more strange food I’ll have tried before returning to Sweden. (It was a strange feeling to have meat and other eatable stuff in the same pot as a big brain.. but I was hungry!).

Right now I’m on the floor in a smaller hotel in Kunming – when we arrived I wasn’t allowed to check in because I was foreigner. Smaller hotels in China often has this very strange rule. Well, the place was pre-paid by a friend so after much friendly debating and paper showing we came in. And why on the floor? Because I found that a neighbor to the hotel has an open wifi!! So a little bit of internet for me, but if i move it’s gone. hehe.

Unbelievable detail!

EDIT: It’s a DP2 shot. Not from Dp1.

I was fooling around with Raw Developer, old version too and converted some new DP2 shots to see what they would look like with noise reduction turned off and sharpening smoothing turned off. Colors are as opened on these two crossing shots. All shots below are saved as 200% size and opened in LR2 for the watermark and sRGB save. EDIT, just realized that my watermark is not applied. Still copyrighted!! :)

And some other shots developed with Raw Developer. Also DP2. Now I have to admit that I developed these lats night and I felt at the time that Oaaaa, they had such incredible colors but today with this screen I’m using it looks pretty boring so I have no idea what you will feel or see. Hopefully what I saw!

I’m back with more shots from Yunnan, Dali – I really enjoy my stay so far and my DP’s hasn’t run out of juice once yet. I have one spare battery for each and I charge every night. I film quite a lot too, will show later when it’s time. One thing is extremely annoying and that’s when I switch between the two use interface is slightly different so I often press the wrong buttons which has killed some good moments, perhaps there should be some option to make the DP2 mimic the DP1.. :)

As some of you know I had problems with my CS3 installation so I installed Lightroom 2.4 instead, so this time I have a wide mix between LR developed shots and SPP 3.3 developed shots (saved as TIFF from SPP and imported into LR for my little watermark and some post adjustments such as vigneting. Often none). Can you see what is what?
