How about to consider the Sigma 50mm/1.4? It has Canon mount version, maybe you could try to find one from Sigma Sweden rep office...

Hi Robin, Yes - of course. I want to lend a Canon lens. :) But If I can't lend one then I need to find one and Robert's suggestion is a good one. The 50mm 1.8 is cheap and works great. I got some emails from people willing to lend me some equipment for the trip - one 50mm 1.4 and some other lenses. Sad only that most of them lives too fat away.

The 35mm 1.4 might be king - but 35mm is very wide on a FF camera. I like wide. If someone close to me could lend me I would take it without blinking!

You're asking, because you rather want to borrow the lens too instead of just getting advices which one, aren't you? =) If I had to take one only lens to china it would be the 35/1.4. But I neither live in sweden nor in china ...

Hello, I came looking for DP2 images, and saw your post about Canon lenses. I don't know about Sweden and China (or any stops you are making), but the EF 50/1.8 is very cheap, very good (though soft wide open) and used to be easy to find at least in the USA. Not USM, so focusing noise may be a problem for video. Sigma and Canon both make 50/1.4 USM for full frame. They are four times the price of the 50/1.8, but might be easier to find. Good luck.

I know just imagine the creamy bokeh on a face going in and out of focus!

You can get a lens adapter to turn the 50 backward and use it as a macro too!

It's not a bad idea. I wish it would be something like 1.4 though. :)

How about the new 24-70 2.8 HSM from Sigma

I here is is suppose to be sharp and a zoom would lighten the load.

You could get nice wide shots (always useful in film) with the 24mm.
