DP2" width="500" height="336" /> Above shot is taken with the pre-production DP2. Monochrome wb. Full size.
Finally I got my hands on a real DP2 and no longer will I take pictures that could be different from what you would get with yours. I also got myself the view finder VF-21 and the hood adapter HF-21. The Hood is impossibly important because without it you can’t use filters or whatever you might need. View finder is nice for street type of work or when you wanna play cool and guess distans and use only MF. Like in the old days.
AND..
..new firmware is out for the Dp2 and Adobe CS4 now has full DP2 support – get camera raw 5.4. Some think it’s better, some think it’s worse than SPP. Will get back with my own tests a bit later (using my new darling!).
Jeff Sickels, the creater of Sigma X3F quicklook plugin has once more shown his skill and released a welcome update. He made this comment a while back:
There’s a new version of the X3F_qlgenerator out that now uses x3f_extract. It handles the DP1 X3F files significantly better than earlier versions (a plus), and keeps the same orientation enhancements from v1.2. Thanks to Carl’s RAW DP2 Pack, I was also able to verify that Quicklook handles the DP2 files rather well (now I just have to get my hands on a DP2). Enjoy.
Sigma shots needs your attention! They’re not ready to go just like that – but more something like in the old days when you had to care for the image to be rewarded. You can spend seconds or hours inside Sigma Photo Pro to get “that” – Sigma shots rarely start out perfect when opened, you might wanna change WB and perhaps color mode to get the most out – or add some contrast or even saturation if that’s your thing. The thing is that Foveon images become magic in a whole different way compared to bayern alternatives – especially when taken in RAW.
This pack also includes some tricky shots for educational purposes!
(or just because I didn’t set correct settings before taking the picture)
Here’s one from the pack, taken at ISO100 at f2.8
And a 100% crop from the above shot. Pretty impressive detail and thickness don’t you think from a “point and shot” sized camera?. Image is perhaps a bit dark and maybe WB could be better, hmmm – Open the pack up and deal with it! :) – I don’t mind you posting your version of these, but please tell where you found them.

Hi again, a smaller pause in posting but not so much in shooting. Here follows some of my every day play with the DP2 and as you might see I often use it wide open playing with the out of focus area to create focus and space.
Workflow for these has been Sigma Photo Pro develop RAW file with slight adjustments – no sharpening added, color mode is either standard or landscape. Saved as Adobe RGB and later converted to sRGB before saving in Photoshop. No further adjustments made in Photoshop except text and curves on the black and white shot. And I must add that when saving to JPEG a pretty big part of the glory is gone. Even if I shoose 100% jpeg quality it’s never the same – colors and contrast is just not “there” the same way.
