Kazuto Yamaki, Spy shot!

Back from Photokina!

Well, we came back sunday evening – a long trip I must say. Next time I’ll drive a Ferrari or something. We were three persons and we had three nights, two of them in my car and one at Bob and Olgas home Two nights in my car with three persons and if you have good imagination you might understand. :D (it’s a small car my A2).

The fair itself was great! I did have a closer look at the new Canon 5D Mark2. In short: flat, plastic images, fantastic movies! Although swimmy effect when moving a hand for example fast in front of it but much more controlled and MUCH better IQ than Nikon D90. I was surprised on how little you could acually control anything during shooting or even before shooting. Not even aperture you could decide!

I tried to have a closer look at the Leica S2 (was only shown inside a glassed box), I went around shooting a bit with the Hasselblad H3D II 31MP and I would lie if I said I didn’t want one. Thou it’s noisy as my SD9 on higher ISO than 200. Had fun with Fuji films little 3D camera – amazing thing really. I wish that Sigma had something like that going. The new 3D prints that comes more or less with the camera is also very very cool. No glasses needed.

I had my DP1 on me, Linn had her favorite combination of SD14, battery grip and 30mm 1.4. Always looks great on her. And she refuses to let me help her carry it. Pride! :) People constantly stopped me asking me questions about my DP1 – it’s really amazing how many conversations I had because of the little thing. I even made some new friends becuase of it.

The SD15 is too new for me to have anything to say about. The DP2 is a DP1 with a faster and better internal slight changes on the outside to the better – you will probably like it. Not much to say yet. Will probably be available somewhere around PMA. My guess.

I’m working hard with young people and will try to develop some of my images from the fair together with some stories if possible. :)

Photokina 2008 next..

This afternoon starts my long journey down to Cologne / Köln / Photokina. Trip takes about 8-11h depending on speed. It’s 1090km and I changed oil in my car (Audi A2) yesterday to prepare. Linn will join. If there is anyone living in Göteborg that would like to join (or in any of the cities down south like Varberg, Halmstad etc) then you’re welcome to jump inside. We’re not sure how we will sleep the first night. Maybe switch driver and just go. Sleep half half on some high way stop. :D

We will get back here on Sunday morning and we have some Dutch friends pretty close with bed and breakfast. :D (Thanks Olga and Bob) I’m sure if someone joins it’s possible to stay with us for convenience. If you wanna contact me then call me! Number is 0734-00 17 17. Danish? I’m going via Helsingör.

Looking forward to this building as well! :D The mightiest church I know. (SD10 at Photokina 2006)

And I’ll have a closer look at Sigma SD15/DP2, Canon 5D Mark 2, Nikon D700 / D90, Leica S2, and most things medium format.

Some photos from Photokina 2004 (SD9 and SD10)
My photos from Photokina 2006 isn’t that much to look at. :D

SD15 and DP2 | First thoughts..

After much wait there finally is a SD15 and oala also a DP2. the biggest improvement seams to be the new TRUE 2 engine, hopefully that means even better image quality and much improved speed! That’s one of the main issues I think for both DP1 and SD14. Speed. But also AF fine tuning is of great importance! slightly off and the extreme sharpness of the foveon image shows it.

Also want video recording for the SD15, was hoping for that with the SD9 too but never got it so I guess I’ll have to wait another decade or so before getting it. hehe.. Just imagine 1080p 24p RAW footage made with a Foveon sensor! That would kick RED EPICs butt just like that! REAL, crisp colors in lifelike pictures full of micro contrast like I’m used to!  – Or should I wait for the Scarlet? Without even knowing what specs it will have now when it’s all changed (se RED.com for more info). Maybe it’s Nikons D90 and Canons 5DMark2 that got me kickin’..

DP2 has a new 41mm lens. One of my most used lenses has been my 30mm 1.4. It’s pretty close to 24.5mm and I’m pretty sure it will become a classic especially with a bright f2.8 with nice bokeh. (Sigma has become really good with bokeh). But why isn’t the lens out at all times and made of solid, naked metal? That’s more my style. Heavy is cool! :D With focus and aperture control on the lens. THAT would be a killer! :D Maybe a Full Frame DP3 will give me a surprise!

But for now, the SD14 delivers incredible image quality (at lower ISO), the SD15 will have the same sensor but with two generations newer image processor that hopefully will do magic. What can I say? Bring it on! But it better be good!

EDIT: One more thing that I really would like to see in the SD15 is a split screen focus screen thingi. Like in the old days. I really like the feeling of taking my time to just focus. You know turn off auto functions (all of them) and focus. :D

Escort MK1 with 500hp+

Trying out the new Lightroom 2.1, these shots were taken with SD14 + 120-300 and 50mm 1.4. (Sigmas). I did add lots of vignetting, so don’t blame sigma. ;) I’m not satisfied with Lightrooms way of handling the RAW Foveon data BUT I’m VERY happy with Adobes approach with DP1 images. In their latest RAW update for Photoshop and Lightroom there is support and it’s more vibrant and better color separation than Sigmas photo pro. I’ll do some more tests and share later.

I think I’ll redevelop these and see what they could look like using SPP 3.2 + Aperture. Just for fun! :D

New gallery!

Just wanted to show you that the new slickr gallery is now active and well. I worked hard on creating sets over at flickr, and I think I made it one year back so enjoy. Go directly to my Gallery!

changing some things.. (update)

I’ve now made some cool changes. iPhone support. just go to www.rytterfalk.com using your iphone and enjoy a fast and simple version of my site  (thanks to wptouch) – Also added Gravatar support. Just join, add your little image and all pages with gravatar support will automaticly use your image (not only mine).

I also added a flickr gallery (using slickr) and I’ll try to make it show more “good stuff” and not just my latest iphone shots (it’s so easy to upload using my iphone so I use it quite often). I’m currently learning how to set it up, so be patient. – I also realized that my shots should have been placed in “sets” in flickr to be useful. this will take time to fix. hehe – But you can still see some sets.

hope you like it so far.

Amazing detail using Raw Developer 1.8 (update)

raw developer 1.8 processed photos

Click for full size. If you have a Mac and a SD14 then please please try RD 1.8 out. For use Black and White nerds it’s heaven. This is processed using + monochrome XDR .. will show how you can use it and become BW master later. :D

I had some real problems..

With my domain. It sort of got in between the move I made a year ago to dreamhost.com from one.com – The name rytterfalk.com had an administrative email address that I no longer use – and can’t reach. So when moving I didn’t get the correct info in time and they didn’t get the correct answer so site was shut down.

Now it’s back but maaaan, so much trouble. Sending faxes etc to some joker.com (does that sound trustable?! :D ) Anyways I’m now redesigning my site, updating a little and will make it work great for iphone too. I was almost hoping to do that while the site was dead.

Now, all emails sent to me the last two weeks never came trough. If you sent one and didn’t get an answer that please send again! or just call me. Some of you are already doing that and it’s a nice brake in the everyday struggle to get a phone / skype call from somewhere far far away.

I also attended the Coldplay concert in Stockholm the day before yesterday – cameras not allowed but iPhones not a camera!, right?
