Hi Sloan!

Banding is not normal. I've heard about it but it's rare and should not be there. Raw Developer is different from DCRAW - not the same engine actually. (for SD14 files) if you want you can send me a file and I'll take a look and see if what you see is real. :)

Your camera might be faulty, if it's not then I'm sure that we will be able to make you take wonderful images! (and make them look better than what's seen on the LCD)

Carl,
I just bought a SD14 and upgraded to 1.07 before I even had a lens as ISO 50 was the reason I bought the camera. I've just got a couple of questions. I've noticed when i use dcraw to convert the images I get really nasty horizontal banding int he green range shooting at mid iso (200-400). This effect doesn't show up in photo pro but photopro has been refusing to save certian images for me. Also I've noticed that the conversion even without the banding on normal shots the reds seem to go flat (full brightness red looking like channel clipping) when using dcraw. In these shots the embedded jpg looks fine. Do you notice the same thing with your raw software? I know the one that you showed the high iso tutorial in uses dcraw for the conversion. I'm sure there are ways around it but i'm looking for some help. Also is the green banding normal? If I take a lens cover shot it even shows up in the preview jpg. It gets worse with ISO and exposure time.
Thanks,
Sloan

P.S. I love your site. you conviced me to get the SD14 and I love shooting with it, i've just got to figure out how the get the pretty pictures form the preview screen come out on my computer screen.

TTH,

many would have been satisfied with the SD10 sensor and a improved technology.

Yep, I agree with you Carl that Sigma makes SD14 better and better. My SD14 costed 470 euros with shipping and I knew that I get good value for my money, and now that value is getting better and better. Good work Sigma. It's good that Sigma has only two cameras now on sale, so they can focus only those two models and make them better and better everytime. And there isn't comming new model before Foveon makes new sensor, becouse it's useless to publish new model with same sensor.

Hi Carl, I agree the SD14 is certainly a much better camera with each firmware update. I look forward to seeing what you can do with the latest capabilities.
